Jason R's Blog!

Jason R:

I learned this week in science is that there are 11 types of energy in the world.
My favorite activity this week is in technology when I have to build a circuit.
The work I am proud of this week is doing the theme of DRUM DANCERS and talking about the book, The Chocolate Touch.

Helen S. blog

What I learned in social studies Is that the legislative branch makes laws and The Executive branch has the responsibility of the laws. The judicial branch interprets the laws. My favorite activity this week was the Bill of rights shield because we got to draw about the constitutional rights and then when we were done drawing we needed to color it and that was the fun part of the Bill of Rights shield. What I was proud of this week is that I’m finished with my work that is due today. What I  am looking forward this week is that if we can learn more about the three branches of the government like the judicial branch and the rest of the three branches because when I was in 4th grade I made a presentation about the judicial branch and It reminds me of now when we are studying about the three branches  and that is why I want to learn more about three branches of the government.

Daniel P.'s view of the week!

Daniel Parada

Hello my name is Daniel Parada and this week in math we worked a whole lot on those equivalent fractions and we have all had that moment were we didn't know how to find them until we actually got in a group with the teacher and found out all we had to do is double the denominator and the numerator and boom an equivalent fraction. In Social Studies, we learned about the Bill Of Rights we even drew a shield of the right that is the most important to us and I drew the religion one and somebody wrote the gun one that i'm against you know who you are… Another thing we did in Social Studies was in classroom ( if you don’t know what it is, it is a app where we do our work) and a lot of people got a ES parents just letting you in on stuff and for kids you know who you are, the ones that got an ES... ME...and some other kids. In writing we are writing about something we see in the classroom and turning it into a non-narrative or narrative piece. I'm writing about a clock and when it will stop ticking but for now we are still on this boring planet that nothing cool is happening.  Fact Of The Day: shooting stars are actually little parts of asteroids :)...In science we are learning about magnets and magnetic fields and stuff like that, and in computer lab we are connecting wires batteries and lightbulbs to light up the light bulb...obviously... The piece of work I am most proud of this week was my bill of rights because I have an ES on it . My favorite activity we have done this week was in P.E when we were working on our volleyball skills. The thing I am looking forward to next week is probably going back to P.E and working on some more volleyball skills.. In conclusion, this week was a pretty good week all good stuff all around, so I would give this week a good old 8/10.

Maeva R.'s blog

From Maeva R.!

This week in science I learned how electricity works ,in math I learned  about  division. My favorite lesson this week was division because, division is like multiplication and it's also really  challenging.
A  work I'm  most  proud  of  this  week  is science  because, I want to learn more about  electricity. Something that I'm most  looking  forward   to next week is science because, sometimes we  get to build a circuit to see how a  light bulb works.

A message about this week from Bryan H!

From Bryan H.

In science, I learned that positive energy and negative energy can make a light bulb light up. The battery is an energy source to the resistor, the light bulb.  In math, I learned how to check my answers for partial quotient division.
My favorite lesson or activity was making a light bulb turn on by making a circuit.
I am most proud of learning new things like learning about circuits.
What I am most looking forward to is being a great student and getting better at things like math , science , social studies , writing and reading because then I would know everything what to do and to try my best.
But if we do not  do are work and not try our best you won't get better grades you are not going to be a good student and not going to know things .

Blog from Cristtel R

Hi name is Cristtel, something new that I learned this week was in Social
Studies I learned about how people peer pressure other people to consume drugs. Also, I learned how to prevent consuming drugs in the future.  My favorite activity this week was when build our rollercoasters and when we got to add the loops and turns to the coaster too. The thing I’m most proud of is my opinion writing because I remembered when my fourth grade teacher taught us how to make an excellent  opinion paragraph.  I’m looking forward to  next week to do my best work and be done with my rollercoaster also to get excellent grades on report card

Blog from Ruben G!

From Ruben:

What I learned in science this week was about force and motion. Motion is something that is moving and force is something that makes something move. My favorite activity this week was that we went to P.E. and we were learning how to play soccer. What I am so proud of is that  finished a lot of math and math used to be hard in fourth grade and I didn't finish math work but know in fifth grade it is getting a little easier because I I have been practicing. What I am looking forward next week is to learn how to subtract decimals and add decimals.

News from Isabel R.

From Isabel R!

One of my favorite activities this week was the social studies assignment called declaring independence or not. Some thing that I learned this week was that before the Revolutionary war, a lot of people had different opinions and good reasons to support why they either wanted independence or disagreed with independence. They had very strong  opinions for what they believed. Something that I am most looking forwards to next week is more reading and social studies assignments. I am looking forwards to those subjects because I want to learn more about the Revolutionary war and I want to learn more current events to write about them.

A message from Daniela M

Daniela M's perspective....

What I am looking forward to  this school year is to get better at math  Because sometimes I am not good at it and I want to learn more about math. Another thing that I want to learn about is social studies because we learn about the colonies like the Sugar Act, Boston Tea Party, Stamp Act, Intolerable Act, and more. And the best thing I want to learn is science because science is amazing.  The work that I am most proud of this week is my narrative writing because I love to write my memories. My favorite activity is science from 9/22/15 because we got to put a rubber band under the chair and put the cup of sand on top of the rubber band then we pulled the cup of sand a then let it go the we got a ruler and started to measure how long it went then we put it in the paper that Mrs Patterson gave us. We threw the sand because
we were learning about force. And we used force to see how far the sand went.

Post from Dangelo Cates!

Here is what Dangelo has to say about what he is learning in fifth grade!

I learned an type of friction is air. Friction stops the thing that is in the air.  When you throw a football in the air, Friction will stop it from going very far like when the quarterback throws the ball friction slows it down. I learned this by watching a video about football and force motion and friction.  I also learned about the boston massacre. It was horrible, the king was very mean and he put taxes on tea. I was mad that he did that and the colonists didn’t like it either. The king made the colonists more mad because the taxes were so high, the colonists began to cheat on their and smuggle tea from Holland. Then the British wanted the colonists to pay their tea so they lowered the price for tea. The colonists thought it was a trick they told the government to get the ship out of the harbor.  The government said no, so the colonists threw the tea off of the ship They were dressed as native americans. I am looking forward to learn about the second meet of the continental congress.

What are we up to this week? By Quazi W.

Hello I am Quazi Waes and I am in 5th grade from Gaithersburg Elementary School. We are learning about the colonies and volume. From the two I would choose the colonies as my favorite topic because back then clothes and hats looked weird to us but to them they looked good. There were so much war and trading going on about that time and it had the most part in history of all I know. It had the sugar act,the stamp act,the quartering act,the declaratory act,the boston tea party and many many more. Some people think volume is interesting too and I do agree, it has many challenges and many mysteries as in who came up with volume or who came up with the length, height and width. We are learning alot of things and I have way too much questions, it would probably take me about 1 or 2 days to finish them.So I just googled them. Yep,very easy. So after I googled up more than 167 questions I thought about how long the people in the colonists lived and how most of them are not fat, I know they work hard everyday but they don’t do a morning jog. Also they did not have a lot of medicine so how did they live a long time. I probably will never find out(I probably will after about 1 century  or so, I probably won’t even be alive to see the epic discovery of how they survived so long or maybe it is already discovered and I have not done enough research or its top secret). I’m ending it now because I think it’s a good ending (Ok I give up I’m only ending it because I have nothing else to say).

September 17th, Christy G

Our first guest blogger is Christy Garcia!

Read below to see what she has to say about our class!

The thing that I am looking forward is to do my best in math and all the rest of the stuff. My favorite  lesson from this week was motion because we had two kinds of balls a tennis ball and a bouncy ball. We had a piece of card board and we had to place it somewhere and then there was a person that had a timer and when the person that was holding that ball and that they were about to let it go the person that had the timer had to start the timer when they let the ball go. When the bouncy ball stopped the person that had the timer stopped the timer. Then the person that had the tape measurer had to measure how long the ball went and where it stopped. We did that experiment to see how fast or slow the ball went. This is called speed.
